PDF to Text — Free OCR for Scanned PDFs

Turn any PDF, including image-based scans, into clean editable text. Multi-page support, fast parallel processing, and per-word verification built in.

Scanned PDFs supported

Image-only PDFs are rendered at high DPI before OCR — no blurry crops.

Parallel page OCR

Multiple pages process concurrently so long PDFs finish in a fraction of the time.

Editable output

Get a single editable document with every page merged in order.

How it works

  1. Upload the PDF. Drop your PDF on the VisionDraft upload area. Both text-based and scanned (image-only) PDFs work.
  2. Run high-DPI OCR. VisionDraft renders every page at high DPI and processes pages in parallel through its AI OCR engine.
  3. Review merged output. All pages are merged into one editable document in the correct order. Bracketed words are uncertain.
  4. Export to DOCX. Click any uncertain word to verify against the original, then export the cleaned text as Word or PDF.

When to use PDF OCR

  • Court orders, government forms, and legal filings.
  • Old scanned books, manuscripts, and archives.
  • Multi-page receipts and invoices.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a scanned PDF to text?
Upload the PDF to VisionDraft. Each page is rendered at high resolution and run through an AI OCR pipeline that returns editable text page by page.
Will it work with multi-page PDFs?
Yes. Pages are processed in parallel for speed and merged into a single editable document.
Can I edit the text after conversion?
Absolutely — the output is a fully editable text panel. Click any bracketed uncertain word to zoom into the source image and correct it.
Is there a file size limit?
Up to 15 MB per upload in the free flow. For larger documents, split the PDF or sign in.
Does VisionDraft preserve formatting?
It preserves paragraphs and line breaks. Heavy layout (tables, columns) is best double-checked using the click-to-verify feature.
Will it work on password-protected PDFs?
Remove the password first using your PDF reader, then upload. We do not store or attempt to bypass document passwords.
Can it OCR a PDF with mixed Hindi and English?
Yes — Devanagari and Latin scripts are both handled natively, even when they appear on the same line.
How accurate is the OCR on old scanned books?
Very accurate when the scan is clear. For very faded ink, the click-to-verify feature lets you fix the few words the model flagged as uncertain.
